RECOGNIZING NEGATIVE INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS

--

As a fellow sufferer I am guilty of dwelling on the negative more than the positive. I guess it is my way of protecting myself emotionally and mentally for the impact of when something does go wrong.

I base this on my insecurities and mistrust of this world and the experience of feeling let down throughout my life because of the expectation I have of a behavior I set for others and basically the influence of the society itself.

Whilst studying I have found a useful technique called RAIN that teaches you to get things into perspective rather than ignore it every time it comes around.

Recognize the thought for what it is without drowning in it. Allow the thoughts to be present (consent) Investigate and find the underlying thought that triggers those negative thoughts. Use your Natural awareness of how to deal with these thoughts to see them as they are.

Meditate, recognize the energetic change, examine the minds input and don’t simply regard it as fact.

It is not easy to just switch off from these intrusive thoughts I tend to just keep myself busy so I do not have time to entertain or give this negative energy power over me. The problem with this escapism is that the thought would not go away and will catch up with you when your more vulnerable.

It would be interesting to hear what other people use as coping mechanisms as some do not work for everyone.
